Abstract

According to Jakarta Police Department (2005), more than 90% of traffic accidents are caused by human factors. At the same time, automobile insurance companies in Indonesia are giving a flat premium to all customers no matter the customer profiles, vehicle conditions, or the number of traffic accidents that the customers have experienced. Global automobile insurance industry has been implementing connected car ecosystem for the decision making of their customers premium. They are collecting data from the vehicles’ conditions and customers’ driving behavior to predict each customer’s risk and calculate premiums. The objective of this research is to understand the current condition of auto insurance industry in Indonesia and to analyze the impact of connected car implementation to this industry. These objectives are reached through a combination of Monte Carlo simulation and quantitative approach, with secondary data, questionnaire and interview. The data collected is preprocessed before being appliedtobacktestingand forward testing. Although a number of companies may experience profit reduction on the first year of connected car implementation, all of them are estimated to have additional profit on the next year.
