Abstract

PT. Millennium Pharmacon International, Tbk ? PT. Millennium Pharmacon International, Tbk. (MPI), previously named as Soedarpo Corporation, is one of the key players in the Indonesian pharmaccutical distribution Industries, operating through 18 branches across archipelago. Founded in 1952, the apany has grown up from family business to become one of the strong and regarded companies in the industry. By 1999, MPI has carried 27 principals. Half of the principals are multinational company such as Merck, Organon, etc. It carries approximately 2,000 SKU, at which about 89% are fast moving products. The company has been publicly listed since 1990. Since then, many competitors have arisen with similar type of business However some of them has grown their business outweigh MPI by far within a few years. The competitionlso comes from smaller companies that have the "luxury" of being operated in low cost The company has around eleven thousand outlets throughout the country consisting of pharmacists (apotik), drug stores, hospitals, supermarkets, chain stores, excluding the wet market. The fleet consists of around 275 sales forces Considering the numbers of principals, competitors, the total outlets as well as the fleet itself, and the complexity it brings, and nevertheless MPI current situation is an excellent company to be studied.
