Abstract

The increasing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in Indonesia has created a growing need to understand the factors influencing consumers’ purchasing decisions, particularly in Jakarta. This study examines the influence of Charging Infrastructure Availability, Environmental Awareness, and Perceived Technological Luxury on Purchase Decision toward electric vehicles in Jakarta. A quantitative approach was employed using a structured questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale, involving 154 valid respondents who met the predetermined criteria. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) through SmartPLS to evaluate the measurement and structural models. The measurement model was assessed through outer loadings, Average Variance Extracted (AVE), reliability, and discriminant validity, while the structural model was evaluated using R², VIF, hypothesis testing, effect size (f²), and Importance-Performance Map Analysis (IPMA). The results show that Charging Infrastructure Availability has a positive and significant influence on Purchase Decision, with a path coefficient of 0.251, while Environmental Awareness also has a positive and significant influence with a coefficient of 0.250. Perceived Technological Luxury demonstrates the strongest positive and significant influence, with a coefficient of 0.430. Thus, all three hypotheses were supported. The model produced an R² value of 0.499, indicating that the three variables explain 49.9% of the variance in Purchase Decision, while the remaining 50.1% may be explained by other factors outside the model. The f² results show that Perceived Technological Luxury has a medium effect (f² = 0.285), while Charging Infrastructure Availability (f² = 0.109) and Environmental Awareness (f² = 0.105) have small effects. The IPMA further identifies Perceived Technological Luxury as the most important factor, while Charging Infrastructure Availability demonstrates the highest performance. Overall, the findings indicate that EV purchase decisions in Jakarta are influenced by practical considerations, environmental values, and perceptions of technological advancement, providing useful insights for automotive companies and relevant stakeholders.
