Abstract
The underdeveloped of eastern Indonesia is expected to improve the establishment of the FHT, the largest ferronickel plant in the country. The plant is dedicated by ANTAM, the holding company, to the Republic of Indonesia. Indonesia is one of the countries with huge and potential mineral resources that can be exploited and used for greater welfare its people. Exploitation of the mineral resources will certainly be more meaningful if mining companies can also process the raw material into valued added material as it will generate higher selling prices and boost the revenue for the company and government. Unfortunately only a few mining companies are concerned about this. Such fact triggers the issue of Mining Law no. 4, 2009 concerning the ban export in 2014. The law which will take effect in 2014 is causing a major change in the mining industry as certain raw material (including nickel) will need to be processed first in order to increase its added value before it is allowed to be exported. Clearly, the Government aims to increase revenue from the mining sector.
