Abstract
Today, natural gas has become a primary alternative energy source in various industries. This is because natural gas has many advantages compared to other energy sources. Natural gas is the cleanest energy source (has a low carbon intensity), safest and can be used in a variety of needs ranging from industry, households to transportation. Indonesia as the 10th largest natural gas producing country in the world, is still not able to utilize all the gas produced for domestic needs. Currently, most of the natural gas produced is used for export. This low domestic use is due to government policies coupled with the lack of gas infrastructure built in Indonesia. Central Java is an example of a region in Indonesia that has the potential to utilize natural gas, but it has not been supported by the allocation of gas supply to the industry and limited natural gas infrastructure development. This is an attractive condition that can be done in-depth research to find out the problems that arise. With hope, after knowing the existing problems, it could be a solution for optimizing the use of natural gas in Indonesia in general and in Central Java in particular. This research was prepared to conduct a market analysis that can be used to maximize the use of natural gas in Central Java. This market analysis was obtained through in-depth literature review which was detailed through direct interviews and surveys into industries in Central Java. From the results of the literature review study combined with the interviews and direct surveys to industries, obtained a significant data that there is huge potential natural gas user for industry in the Central Java. The survey results show that Semarang, Kendal, Ungaran, Demak, Kudus and Pati have a market potential of 34.79 MMSCFD. Thus, building gas pipeline in these areas are advised. Other areas with lower market potential can be distributed with CNG. Then to be able to maximize the use of natural gas, can be done with various recommendations for marketing analysis methods in terms of product, price, promotion and place. Keywords: Natural Gas, Market Potential, Gas Pipeline, CNG
