Abstract
PT Humpuss Intermoda Transportasi Tbk (hereinafter refered to as HITS), is an Indonesiabased shipping services provider. The company is engaged in the transportation business for transporting Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), crude oil, chemicals, coal, containers and other sea cargoes. The company also provides ship agency services, vessel crews, which include vessel rental on the basis of “time charter” and “spot charter”, and management services to vessel owners. In 2014, HITS focuses on implementing stabilization program by envisioning the business units and energizing the management to enable the company in entering the stage of “ready to grow” to face the business challenges. Aligned with the program, HITS need to select which business units that should be focused for growth, as well as the business units’ key success factors, and determine the basis of competition of each business. Therefore in fulfilling the company’s need, this research focus on facilitating the corporate strategy formulation. The corporate strategy management process was started by conducting environmental scanning, reviewing the company vision and mission, as well as formulating strategy in corporate and business level through portfolio and porter competitive analysis. The method of analysis used is qualitatitave approach through data collection, data analysis, and research study activities. In order to achieve the growth, the analysis concludes that HITS should focus to grow its LNG, petrochemical transportation, offshore support services, and crewing management business. While oil transport, bulk carrier, and shipping agency are businesses that need to be managed efficiently. There are three key success factors identified in the corporate which are operational excellence, reliability, and networking. In regard of competition; LNG, petrochemical transportation, and crewing management business should compete on the basis of differentiation considering their nature of low competitive industry. While oil, offshore support services, container, agency, and bulk carrier should compete on cost basis due to high competitive rivalry market. The research also conducted revenue projection and the estimate impact towards company value, if above recommendations are followed through with aligned investment initiatives. With estimated investment of USD 767 million, the calculation showed an increment in company value from USD 131 million (in 2013) to range of USD 301 million until USD 590 million (in 2023).
