Abstract

The healthcare sector keeps increasing because a lot of private money keeps going into hospital infrastructure. Private investment in health care has more than doubled in the last ten years and concentrating more on building healthcare facilities in tier-2 and tier-3 cities outside of the major urban areas. According to Ministry of Health, Indonesians spend about US$ 11.5 billion a year on healthcare compared to other ASEAN nations in 2016, with Malaysia covering 80% of these costs . The country's overall number of hospitals grew by more than 80% between 2010 and 2020, from 1,632 to 2,448 facilities, representing the addition of more than 1,300 new hospitals in just 10 years. Primaya, Siloam and Mitra Keluarga hospital are top premium private hospital in Indonesia which provide medical services not only for private patients but also JKN segment. The primary aims of this study is to demonstrate how the comparison between three premium private hospitals financial performance before, during and after the crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic. The data were collected from audited financial reports during 2017-2024 provided on the official websites. The data were examined using eight financial ratios analysis to assess the financial healthiness, referring to the Decree of State Owned Enterprises Minister No.100/2002. The author found out before the pandemic, all of three private hospitals’s healthiness rate are unhealthy (ccc/cc) , and improve the healthiness rate going to less healthy (bb/b) in during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The majority strategies of three private premium hospitals in this study are cost efficiency, hospital expansion in rural areas, high advance technology medical services and broad target patient segmentation, not only private patients but also JKN patients. The Findings in this study provided stakeholders and shareholders with the key insights on how the strategy and financial performance of three premium private hospital were affected and survived from the crisis of COVID-19 pandemic.
