Abstract
The company’s external environmental situation is growing very quickly, indicated by technological development that affects the company's speed, both on pipelines and on platforms in the information processing. The technology has become a force in business in the world of enterprise for competitiveness. It is becoming increasingly evident that IT has changed the business world. The results of this transformation are studied by this study. In particular, the external conditions of the company and the competition model of five forces are taken into consideration. As well as their influence on the company’s existing business form, and to study how companies adapt to change by synthesizing literature studies from the journals and books. Through several examples of cases in the business world, facts are found related to the conditions of business competition in the digital world, the change in the industry from pipeline-based to platform-based, new strategic rules in the platform business, and challenges of the business world competing on the platform. Unfortunately this study has limitations on how little literature has been studied, and the assumption that only technology can directly influence changes in business forms. This study enhances our understanding of the critical role of digital technology and platform ecosystems in transforming our collective economic future, from product-based to network/ecosystem-based. Keywords: External Environment, Five Forces Competition Model, Information Technology, Platform Companies
