Abstract

Furnishing and Upholstery Department in GMF AeroAsia is the business unit who is responsible for providing and managing the supply for clean seat cover to the aircraft. To maintain continuous supply with the best quality product, this division supported by a production system that composed by several activities. The most important one is in washing and drying cleaning process, which heavily rely on capacity and the effectiveness and efficiency of the machine. We found there are some obstacles of the step process, where the use level of the machine is not optimal and below standard. We also found that machines have unplanned breakdown many times during operation and this breakdown time becomes longer due to no spare part stock in warehouse. The process is also still in manual way that relies on the accuracy of the operator for the time being. At the end, this situation can influence the continuous supply of the seat cover. This research is started by understanding the equipment losses that existed in this area and continuing by calculate the achievement of overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) in one cycle production in each machine. In the other part of this research, we also tried to offer an alternative for automation process by implementing the RFID technology to improve OEE and replace the manual process, so that it can further improve the performance and results from this business unit. All data we have is based on observation, interview with operator, supervisor and manager in upholstery division. And based on our Thesis (Group Field Project), GMF AeroAsia need to apply TPM (Total Preventive Maintenance) System for Upholstery Division and add new machine to enhance the overall process effectivity and to upgrade the available capacity.
