Abstract

The GFP (Group Field Project) is focused on defining strategies in Sardine business units, especially for round cans and club cans at PT. Ancol Bright Metal Printing Industry ("Company"). As the competition is getting tougher, the performance of the Sardine business unit has been declining. The document is expected to provide practical recommendations to the sardine business unit of the Company for strategies / initiatives in order to turn around the situation by winning the competition, achieving its targets and supporting the Company's vision and mission. The framework of the analysis that has been adopted includes quantitative and qualitative data research, internal and external information that the team believes will bring benefits in order to achieve Company's goals. The Business unit produces and sells sardine empty cans in two (2) categories, as follows: • Round cans with two sizes, small size (diameters 202) and big size (diameter 300). Filled Sardine Round cans are mostly for local domestic consumption. • Club cans. Filled Club cans are usually exported by packers to Africa continent and Europe. Club cans has not been introduced yet in the Indonesian local market. Both Round Cans and Club Cans have their own characteristics and different market requirements. Therefore, in this document the team makes separate analysis for each. The team believes that it will enrich the analysis and be able to address the right strategy that the business unit needs. The team proposes three important strategies that the Company must focus on. These are (1) focus on cost reduction especially in Round Cans, (2) penetrate new markets for Club Cans, and (3) establish end to end responsibility in the Business Unit. In addition, the team provides initiatives which are listed by organizational functions. These initiatives are important to answer the above three strategies and to ensure the Company is able to achieve its sales targets within three years. Further details on the recommendation are provided in Chapter 5 Recommendation on Business Strategy. The team believes that a detailed study (outside of current GFP scope) is offered to complement and brings substantial benefits of the suggested recommendations in this report.
