Abstract
In the midst of global economic uncertainty, business aviation in Indonesia grows in line with national economic growth surviving over 6%. The Indonesian National Air Carriers Association (INACA) states that this year’s passenger growth will grow twice the national economic growth. It means that the number of air passengers is believed to be reaching 80 million people by the end of this year.Garuda Indonesia managed to achieve significant growth in 2012. Thanks to the consistent expansion to achieve the target of Quantum Leap 2011-2015. The expansion through the addition of routes and frequency of flights and the operation of new aircraft has provided significant performance results, both in terms of financial and operational performance. One of the expansions of Garuda Indonesia starting in 2012 was adding new aircraft types, namely Bombardier CRJ1000, into its fleet. Bombardier’s latest regional jet aircraft CRJ1000 NextGen which is fuel efficient and environmentally friendly, complete Garuda Indonesia fleet to serve the high density short-haul flights.Kuala Namu Airport, Medan is one of which chosen as a hub airport for the CRJ1000 fleet. The plan is to have 5 units of CRJ1000 aircrafts to be used to connect Medan with the intermediate towns in the island of Sumatra and Malaysia Peninsula. On the other hand, in line with the company's vision to be a world class maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) Company, GMF AeroAsia realize that the right formulation of corporate strategy is the key in winning the increasingly fierce market competition. GMF strategic focus aimed at long-term business growth, improved profitability, operational excellence and organizational performance and increase employee productivity continuously. To realize the vision of the company, as well as to support the growth of its parent company, Garuda Indonesia, GMF AeroAsia must takes strategic steps over the enactment of Medan as a hub for Garuda Indonesia CRJ1000 fleet. These steps include the preparation of an effective maintenance scenario, as well as developing the capacity and capability to support the operation Garuda Indonesia’s CRJ1000 fleet in station Medan. The purpose of this GFP research is to determine the current condition of station Medan operation and to formulate actions to be taken to comply with the expansion of Garuda Indonesia CRJ1000 fleet at hub station Medan. This GFP report assess the current situation and condition of station Medan, also risks that may arise with the addition of CRJ1000 fleet. It will also be simulated scenarios CRJ1000 aircraft maintenance program to get the most effective and efficient in terms of resources and the managerial implications. From the exploration and assessment, it is concluded that the capacity and capability of station Medan are insufficient to handle CRJ1000 maintenance up to A-check. It is important for the management of GMF AeroAsia to take tactical action in order to meet the operational needs of Garuda Indonesia CRJ1000 fleet. The CRJ1000 aircraft maintenance scenarios prepared using clustering method by selecting the A-phase interval of 600 FH. Interval of this size is optimal to support the operation of the CRJ1000 aircraft utilization rate per day for 8 FH / 6 FC at station Medan. Clustering method was done by grouping CAMP tasks based on its interval and set-up requirements. This groups of task subsequently compiled into a long-term maintenance scenario considering the harmonization of manpower needs in each phase of maintenance. It is needed to minimize the cost of investment, particularly the addition of manpower.Another important factor to consider is that with such scenario, the ground time of the aircraft for execution of A-check maintenance can be optimized. The workload level is not too volatile at each maintenance phase to make ground time easily synchronized with existing operations schedule.Based on the research, we recommend to the management of GMF AeroAsia that the development of capacity and capability of station Medan to perform maintenance of CRJ1000 aircraft up to A-check should be expedited. It cannot be avoided because it is part of GMF obligation to meet the SLA that has been made with Garuda Indonesia.
