Abstract
Indonesia's banking sector has continuously been on the rise. The growth of the middle class and overall population resulted in the ongoing development of the finance industry. From lending target market perspective banks mostly divided the segment into the following: corporate (mostly large corporate including state owned enterprise, multi national companies and large local corporate/conglomerates, middle market enterprise, small and medium enterprise, and consumer finance. Commercial banking in Bank XYZ was established in late 2019. This is a new segment to the new merged bank between large and public listed local bank with Japanese corporate bank. The large local bank was specialized mostly in SME and micro finance, whilst the Japanese corporate bank was specialized in large corporate banking. Hence, this division is expected to fulfill the gap between corporate and SME segment, for the bank capture all market segments. Shortly after its establishment, COVID-19 pandemic emerged and affected not only all the development plan, but also the banking industry nationwide. Afterwards, majority of the industry has started to gradually recover during 2021-2022 upon the market and business adjustment to the pandemic. However, until 2023 commercial banking is still behind its initial target growth, even YoY target growth. The objective of this study is to strengthen position of commercial banking segment, which in the long run will create sustainable growth. Currently, commercial banking internally used the approach through risk acceptance criteria in the credit paper program. The methodology used for this case are PESTLE analysis, TOWS and SWOT analysis, business model canvas, and market competitiveness strategy. The outcome of the research is to provide the management with recommendation to improve credit paper program in general in order to create sustainable growth in the long run.
