Abstract

Digital transformation is accelerated and happening much faster because of COVID-19 pandemic. Indonesia remains as one of the most attractive countries for digital economy growth due to its size, growth opportunities, and vibrant ecosystem for digital start-ups. Technology start-ups have been blooming at average growth rate of 49% since 2015, but the digital transformation in legal industry remains very limited despite the untapped Indonesian market and demand for legal services. This thesis examines one of the reasons for the stagnant growth from point of view of lawyers' attitude towards technology. Building upon the extended technology acceptance model (TAM), this research explores the factors that influence lawyers' technology adoption decisions, which is top management support, and the subsequent impact on their technology usage behaviour in a legal context. A sample of 100 respondents of lawyers from law firms from greater Jakarta area was collected by purposive sampling method. Using PLS-SEM, it is found that top management support has positive impact on the effect of lawyer's intention to use technology on the actual technology usage; thus, translates the key objective of the study which is to uncover the extent to which top management support enhances or inhibits the translation of intention into action, thereby shaping the lawyers' technology adoption behavior. The findings of this research are expected to contribute to both theoretical and practical realms. By extending the TAM framework and exploring the moderating effect of top management support, this study enhances the understanding of factors influencing technology adoption and usage among lawyers. It provides valuable insights for law firms in developing strategies to promote successful technology adoption by considering the crucial role of top management support in facilitating lawyers' actual usage of technology.
