Abstract

Salt is a very important commodity for people's lives. Apart from being consumed, salt is much needed in several industries, including for preservation and chemical mixtures. Data from the ministry of Industry for 2022 states that the national salt need for 2022 is based on the salt balance, which is 4.5 million tons, but this year, the plan to absorb domestically produced salt by medium and large-scale salt processing industries is 1,050,000 tons from several salt production centers throughout Indonesia, excluding those absorbed directly by the small and medium industrial sector (IKM). The data above shows that the ratio of national salt demand and fulfilment is 4.5 : 1. This research will show the big chances of investment in salt industry with qualitative approach. This analysis consists of SWOT analysis, pestle analysis, porter five forces analysis, capital budgeting overview, sustainable development goals (SDGs) and fundamental financial analysis. The results of this study indicate that this project is feasible to continue because of the good salt potential in NTT, the opportunity for government regulation, the lack of competition, and the results of financial modelling showing that financial indicators show good numbers. In addition, investors must also pay attention to infrastructure aspects and potential changes in government policies in the future.
