Abstract

There have been studies conducted on the barrier to entrepreneurship and the factors affecting entrepreneurial intention among students, however, there is limited literature that discusses it in the context of video game industry start-ups. The objective of this study is to examine the effect of entrepreneurial education, entrepreneurial culture, government entrepreneurial support and entrepreneurial mindset of the entrepreneurial intention of Indonesian students in video game industry start-ups. A sample of 166 respondents from DKI Jakarta university students was collected by purposive sampling method. Through a rigorous procedure of structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM), it is found that, in the context of video game industry start-ups, entrepreneurial culture has significant and positive effects on entrepreneurial mindset and intention, importantly, entrepreneurial education has a significant but negative effect on entrepreneurial intention. Government entrepreneurial support was found to have a significant and positive effect on entrepreneurial mindset, but no significant effect on entrepreneurial intention. Finally, it was found that having an entrepreneurial mindset does not significantly affect entrepreneurial intention. The result imply that the entrepreneurship model in video game industry start-ups does fully conform to previous studies. The findings are to give a contribution to discussions among policymakers, educational institutions, and other stakeholders in Indonesia's entrepreneurship development on how to better foster and realise the potential of the video game industry start-ups.
