Abstract

After more than forty years since its inception, samudera Indonesia has now grown to become one of Indonesia's premiere shipping and transport companies. Time has come for the company to reconsolidate itself and to find new business opportunities. The opportunities found then should be followed by feasibility studies to ensure that they will add value to the shareholders. The board of directors had decided to choose the air cargo option as a new opportunity worth exploring. The route selection is critical in conducting the air cargo business and a company has to consider many factors such as: market size, growth, balance of flows and flexibility. Once a route is determined, operational and financial studies have to be conducted for that particular route to determine the profitability, the sustainability and to assess the overall feasibility of the business.
