Abstract

As the most populous state in Malaysia, Selangor produced the amount of food waste that have negative impact towards the environment. One of the causes of the food waste in Selangor is due to lack of awareness and knowledge from the consumers, including young generation, in selangor. Because of this cause of food waste, AIESEC in UNMC executes a national project called as clean our plate, which supports the united nations sustainable development goal (SDG) 12, Responsible consumption and production. The clean our plate project has the main objective to increase awareness, change attitude and initiative easy as well as obvious actions of youth towards managing and reducing preventable food waste. The clean our plate project requires involvement from exchange participants around the world who want to create impact on the young generation in Selangor. The clean our plate project targeted the secondary school students from SMK Tinggi Kajang and SMK Saujana Impian as the representatives of the community that the project wants to tap. The methodology that is used to evaluate the effectiveness of the project is quantitative method in a form of offline pre-test and post-test. In overall, the clean our plate project is able to achieve its main objective that can be seen through the increase of awareness and positive behavior of the students at SMK Tinggi Kajang and SMK Saujan Impian. The clean our plate project can also be considered as successful and effective because the students were able to do composting and devise their own plan for action space activity as their effort to create impact in their own schools. Thereby, in a bigger picture, this project has contributed to the SDG 12, which is responsible consumption and production.
