Abstract

Warehousing has become a core competency, a strategic weapon that many companies are using to enhance their competitive position through warehouse excellence. The study investigated how to optimise picking productivity of a particular client of PT. GAC Samudera Logistics at its Cikarang warehouse, by using FlexSim as a simulation software. FlexSim software was used to test and measure the efficiency and effectiveness both quantitatively and qualitatively from observation, questionnaire and interviews. The current inventory layout tends to have no detailed product classification to simplify arrangement and has it assumes all as Fast Moving product. The picking productivity of current inventory layout of 10 aisles with 170 metres depth is 25 pallets per hour with approximately 875 pallets daily output. Then, the aisles’ depth were shortened and widened by using experimenter tool on FlexSim and has improvement of 62.2% for its picking productivity. Keywords: optimisation, Supply Chain Management, warehousing, warehouse, inventory, racking, picking productivity, logistics, simulation, FlexSim.
